HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (ACN) The General Customs of the Republic of Cuba reported Wednesday that the tax exemption for foods, toiletries and medicines is extended until June 30, 2022.
In force since July 19, this measure facilitates the non-commercial import of these goods by passengers as accompanied baggage, with no limits as to their value or quantity.
Customs officials told the press that the extension takes into account the continued limitations on the availability of these items mainly because of the intensification of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade and the impact of the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.
They added that the tax benefits under resolutions 318 and 321 of July 2021 issued by the Ministry of Finance and Prices about the import of foods, toiletries and medicines by state entities and international economic associations, as well as the consumables and raw materials imported by state entities for non-state entities, will be extended until June 30, 2022.
The products exempted from customs duties must be separated from the rest of the miscellaneous goods that each person brings and from their personal belongings in order to facilitate and expedite the relevant clearance procedures
.
Customs gives priority to the security and control of the country’s border and has staff in all the airports to ensure compliance with these measures without undue difficulties, the source refers.
