El cierre tiene una consecuencia directa sobre los viajes entre ambos países porque los estadounidenses que quieran viajar se quedan sin visado. Sólo seguirán emitiéndose para las posibles excepciones humanitarias que se planteen, lo mismo que ya sucedió en el primer cierre temporal que se produjo el 27 de noviembre del pasado año.
Entonces el M&T Bank, que hasta entonces había trabajado con la diplomacia cubana, optó por dejar de dar el servicio. Aunque lo reanudó el 9 de diciembre, con fecha límite 1 de marzo, para ayudar a la Sección de Intereses a encontrar otra entidad financiera.
La diplomacia cubana asegura que el vigente ‘embargo’ que EEUU mantiene sobre la Isla le impide encontrar un banco. Sin embargo, por ahora, la interrupción de los servicios consulares no se notará en el flujo de viajeros, porque todos aquellos estadounidenses que van a viajar en marzo tienen ya su visado.
