HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) The Ozone Technical Office (OTOZ) renewed its call for the second virtual contest on the preservation of the Earth’s shield against the sun’s UV radiation, which damage people’s immune system, eyesight, skin, and life in general.
Protecting the Ozone Layer from home, in reference to the new coronavirus, is the title of this contest for children and teenagers in the modalities of drawing, poetry, short stories, comics and others, according to Nelson Espinosa Pena, Doctor of Science and head of OTOZ.
“This has been one of our main activities to celebrate World Ozone Day, and the theme this year is ‘To keep us and our food and vaccines fresh’,” he said. “Works will be received until August 30 through This email address is being protected from spambots. September 16 was designated by the United Nations as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
Cuba is a signatory of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1985) and the Montreal Protocol (1987), related to the control and gradual elimination of the production and consumption of environmentally harmful industrial chemicals.
OTOZ belongs to the Center for Information Management and Energy Development (CUBAENERGIA) attached to the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (AENTA) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
