HAVANA TIMES – The Carter Center declared that the presidential elections held in Venezuela on July 28 cannot be considered democratic. They noted that the entire process had numerous flaws.
“The 2024 Venezuelan presidential election did not meet international standards of electoral integrity and cannot be considered democratic,” it states in a statement released through the official page of the international organization late Tuesday, July 30, two days after the elections.
The Carter Center, which was invited as an international observer to the Venezuelan elections, states that it cannot verify or corroborate the authenticity of the presidential election results declared by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela.
“The fact that the electoral authority has not announced results broken down by polling station constitutes a serious violation of electoral principles,” they affirm.
They claim that during the electoral process, “CNE authorities showed bias in favor of the ruling party and against opposition candidacies.”
In their statement, they detail that they deployed 17 technicians with teams in the cities of Barinas, Maracaibo, Valencia, and Caracas, and that “the observations were limited, especially on election day.”
