HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 20 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez hailed on Sunday the election of leftist candidate Gabriel Boric as president of Chile, and described this result as a historic popular victory.
Via Twitter, the Cuban head of state also ratified his willingness to expand bilateral relations and cooperation between both peoples and governments.
In the same social network, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla congratulated the president-elect of the South American country and its people for the transcendental electoral victory.
Gabriel Boric, 35, was elected Sunday as president of Chile with 4.6 million votes, the largest number in the country’s history.
A representative of the left-wing coalition Apruebo Dignidad, Boric got 55.86% of the votes, 11.6 points ahead of his contender, the ultra-right-wing José Antonio Kast, of the Social Christian Front.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, the elections set a record of participation since the voluntary vote was implemented in 2012: 8.3 million Chileans went (55%) went to the polls in the second round.
