CAYO SANTA MARIA, Cuba, Dec 10 (ACN) The Spanish chain Melia will open two new hotels in Cuba next year, joining the 32 that are managed by the company throughout the Caribbean nation, in patrimonial cities and beaches.
Maite Artieda Barroso, marketing director of Melia Cuba, said that the Sol Caribe Beach, in Varadero, for family vacations, and another one in Sancti Spiritus will be opened, surpassing the 14,000 rooms the company has in the country.
During the halt of the tourist activity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Melia Cuba started renovating spaces, rooms and furniture in hotels such as Sol Cayo Santa Maria, for people over 16 years of age, and Sol Rio de Lunas y Mares, in Holguin.
According to Artieda Barroso, the Spanish company has several facilities throughout the country that specialize in the MICE segment (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions), which has been growing over the years.
As the pandemic has prevented travel, she continued, the company opted for the realization of hybrid events and others online, the Melia Habana has served as a benchmark by having the technology and the necessary resources for videoconferences.
When interviewed in the framework of the 3rd Gaviota Group Tourist Exchange, held from December 7 -12 and is dedicated to the MICE segment, the executive highlighted the effectiveness of health protocols in order to guarantee reliability in meetings due to COVID- 19.
During the opening of the meeting in Cayo Santa Maria, Gabriel Escarrer, Meliá’s executive director, remarked the safety and competitiveness of tourism in Cuba, while reiterating the company’s commitment to continue the business they started 31 years ago, turning to the foreign company, created in Palma de Mallorca, the first to invest in this country.
