Havana, May 16 (ACN) On the occasion of Africa Day to be marked May 25th, the Cuban Foreign Ministry acknowledged the Cuban cooperation with African nations.
Cuba enjoys prestige in Africa for its selfless contribution to the struggle for independence and sovereignty of African countries and in favor of development, read a message on the Foreign Ministry’s Twitter account.
Solidarity, internationalism and cooperation have marked relations between Cuba and African nations, particularly expressed by the island’s medical assistance with that continent, which began as early as 1963 in Algeria and it’s still underway today.
The commemoration of Africa Day each year also marks the setting up in 1963 of the Organization of African Unity, which was renamed African Union in 2002.
The Cuban Parliament, in its recent Fifth Special Session adopted a declaration affirming the island’s relationship with Africa. The document praises the African Union’s support of Cuba against the over -60 –year US economic, commercial and financial blockade against the Cuban people..
