HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) With the presence of Army General Raul Castro, leader of the Revolution, and Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban communist party and president of the country, began today the last day of the 5th extraordinary session of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), in its 9th Legislature.
Esteban Lazo Hernandez, member of the political bureau and president of the parliament, is presiding over the meeting, and during Monday’s debates will be focused on the analysis of draft laws related to culture.
At the beginning of the meeting, Lazo Hernandez congratulated Cuban farmers for celebrating their Day tomorrow, date on which the Agrarian Reform Law was signed, one of the most transcendental provisions of the Moncada’s program that abolished the latifundia (large estates).
The new regulations that will be submitted for approval today by the Parliament refer to the Law on the Rights of the Author and the Performing Artist and the General Law on the Protection of Cultural Heritage and Natural Heritage, of which, after their analysis by the deputies, the Commission on Education, Culture, Science, Technology and Environment will present its corresponding opinions.
During the weekend, the supreme body of the Cuban State approved six laws and was informed by the National Electoral Commission of the results of the popular consultation process on the draft Family Code, a report issued to the President of the Republic.
