HAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (ACN) The meeting between Presidents Miguel Díaz-Canel and Andrés Manuel López Obrador in Havana was historic, not just another one, according to Miguel Díaz Reynoso, Mexican ambassador to Cuba, in an interview Sunday for the Mexican daily Milenio.
The diplomat referred to the agreements and other important documents signed by both leaders, including a cooperation program in health care that covers vaccines, medicines and exchange of doctors and students, all of which reveals progress in their relations after 120 years of solid and close relations between the two countries.
He highlighted AMLO’s political declarations about international issues, Mexico’s categorical rejection of the U.S. blockade of Cuba and, most importantly, his opposition to the exclusion of any country from the Summit of the Americas, to be held in Los Angeles next month.
“I would also add,” Díaz Reynoso remarked, “the personal relationship and obvious affection between the two presidents. (…) We are seeing a new stage in the history of cooperation with Cuba that paves the way for many opportunities to develop our culture, sports and other branches of knowledge. (…) I believe that the prevailing feeling is one of cheerfulness, pleasure and pride that the President of Mexico went to Cuba and even spoke directly to the Cubans.”
