Havana, May 9 (ACN) Canada’s Che Guevara Solidarity Brigade was granted the stamp for the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Friendship Institute on Monday.
Janine Solanki, Brigade coordinator ion the city of Vancouver, was handed in the distinction by Institute President Fernando Gonzalez, which acknowledges organizations and movements supportive of Cuba.
Solanki who is heading a group of 11 US and Canadian youths said that they are who actually thank Cuba for the acknowledgement since over the past two weeks here they have witnessed how Cubans not only help their own nation but other countries of the world even when they face difficulties.
Cuba is a beam of hope and a proof that a better world is possible, said the activist, who recalled that her brigade waged a campaign for the freedom of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighter who were held in US prisons up to 2014 and later it has increased its demands for the lifting of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.
The Che Guevara Brigade was set up in 1993 to cooperate with Cuba amidst the deep economic crisis facing the nation at that time as a consequence of the collapse of the socialist camp and the strengthening of the US blockade.
Activists with the solidarity brigade have come to Cuba on 28 occasions.
