HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 16 (ACN) The willingness to expand and strengthen bilateral relations, especially inter-parliamentary relations, was ratified by Ana Maria Mari Machado, Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, and Nemanja Starovic, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, who is making an official visit to our nation.
In a fraternal meeting held on Wednesday at the National Capitol, Mari Machado highlighted the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, during 78 years of relations, and thanked the European nation for its support to the Cuban resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.
She also explained the intense legislative activity developed by the Cuban Parliament, after the approval of the Constitution of the Republic; the actions of prevention and confrontation to the COVID-19 pandemic carried out by our Government, with outstanding participation of delegates and deputies in Cuban neighborhoods and communities; and the sanitary and scientific potential that, thanks to Fidel’s vision and the political will of the State, allows today having three vaccines and two vaccine candidates against the new coronavirus at the service of our people and other countries of the world.
Nemanja Starovic reiterated Serbia’s invariable support to the Cuban people in the face of the illegal US blockade and the decision to strengthen relations between both legislative bodies.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by the ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Cuba, Danilo Pantovic. Yolanda Ferrer Gómez and Pedro Pozo, president and official of the International Relations Commission of the Cuban legislature, respectively, also participated on the Cuban side.
Afterwards, the Serbian delegation toured the halls of the National Capitol.
